Description

Charles B. Brown III’s home in Sharpsburg really was his castle! This amazing mansion, perched high on a hill overlooking the Allegheny River, pays homage to its owner’s German heritage and his love of mechanical musical instruments.

Led by resident tour-guide and early instrument specialist Tony Marsico, you’ll wind your way upstairs and down through the maze of rooms with their opulent furnishings, custom-made stained-glass German scenes, secret passages, and of course, dozens of old and rare automatic instruments large and small. Marvel at the delicate bell-like melodies of ornately carved music boxes. Thrill to the trumpets and drums of carousel band organs. You’ll hear mechanical violins and a banjo, early record-players with “His Master’s Voice” horns, even a Victrola disguised as a lamp!

Groups of 2-12 people are welcome. Be sure to call ahead for reservations and wear your comfortable walking shoes.
