Description

There are still steelworkers at the Duquesne mill — or more exactly, workers in steel. On a prominent corner at the old U. S. Steel Duquesne Works site stand three figures built from steel plate and hardhats salvaged from the mill, alongside a huge butterfly made of steelworkers’ hand tools. In recognition of Duquesne’s transformation, the Metamorphosis sculptures were created in the early 1990s by metal artist Tim Kaulen and a crew of former Mon Valley mill workers as part of the site’s redevelopment after the plant was demolished.
