Description

Vitajte! “Welcome” in Slovak! Originally from central Europe, Slovaks came to southwestern Pennsylvania to work in steel and coal. This hardy immigrant people built homes, churches and fraternal clubs in industrial communities throughout the region. Now at the NSS Heritage Museum just south of Pittsburgh, visitors can experience the rich cultural life of old-world Slovakia. Passing through a hand-carved wooden gate, you’ll enter a Slovak village with beautiful costumes and life-size dioramas of farming, weaving and other traditions.
