Rivers of Steel Festival

Description

Built in 1892 as a hotel for the rapidly growing workers’ ward of Homestead, the Bost Building served as headquarters for the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers. Using the third floor as a watchtower, union officials monitored activities in the mill and along the Monongahela River.

From the building American and British newspaper correspondents filed stories for a world hungrily following the strike that pitted the Carnegie Steel Company against the strongest labor union of the time.

Now a Registered National Historic Landmark, the Bost Building serves as the visitor center for the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area. Its third floor features restored rooms and changing exhibits.
